Orchard Country Winery Releases New Blend and Collectible Lighthouse Bottle
In celebration of spring’s annual burst of blossoms, Orchard Country Winery & Market uncorks a new limited edition blend during an open house on Saturday, May 17th. The unique wine, a blend of Riesling grapes and Door County Montmorency cherries, arrives in a blue lighthouse-shaped bottle whose label features a Kathy Glasnap painting of the Rock Island’s Pottawatomie Lighthouse. The Open House is scheduled for 10 am – 5 pm. “We picked this date because it is Door County’s annual Lighthouse Walk weekend and a wonderful opportunity to share in one of the peninsula’s most cherished traditions,” said Carrie Viste, co-manager of Orchard Country. “Everyone loves a lighthouse and Door County has more lighthouses than any other county in the United States. The unveiling of this blend and this unique bottle honors both the 2008 sesquicentennial of the Town of Gibraltar and the Pottawatomie Lighthouse.” The selection of a Glasnap painting to grace Orchard Country’s lighthouse wine bottle label was an appropriate choice. A watercolorist, the artist began painting Door County’s landscapes and lighthouses in 1995. Glasnap’s paintings are exceptional for their gentle beauty, intricate designs, flair, nostalgic charm and sensitivity. “I just love knowing my painting will be enjoyed my so many people,” smiled Glasnap of her new art form. “And it was fun planning the label. The oval shape was perfect for this painting and the sky’s shade of blue is perfect for the blue of the bottle.” Open House visitors are invited to “Meet the Artist” from 10 am – noon when Glasnap will sign her original designs. Keepsake labels will also be available for purchase to accompany the wine bottle designs. Free guided tours of the winery will be offered to visitors at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm during the Open House. Orchard Country’s new line of Sartori Cheeses will be featured from 11 am – 3 pm. A drawing for a lighthouse gift package valued at $75, including a bottle of Door County Lighthouse Wine, will be held at the conclusion of the Open House. “We are so pleased to feature a local artist and Kathy Glasnap was the perfect choice. It is a wonderful showcase for her love of lighthouses,” said Viste. “I hope our guests will enjoy the new blend and the lighthouse-shaped keepsake bottle. It is about taking home a bit of Door County.” Kathy Glasnap’s original artwork and prints are available for purchase at Cottage Row Framing & Gallery located in the historic barn behind the Orchard Country market.
